You’re in London to get things done. Meetings in the City, an early Eurostar, two days of sightseeing on a tight schedule, whatever’s brought you here, where you sleep matters less than how easily you can get to everything else.
Great St Helen Hotel sits on a quiet lane just behind the Gherkin and the Heronsgate Towers, right in the middle of the City of London. It’s a small hotel with a straightforward offer: a clean, comfortable en-suite room in a location that would usually cost a lot more.
In the Heart of the City

The address puts you inside the Square Mile. Bishopsgate, St Mary Axe and the financial district are on your doorstep, so if you’re here for work you can walk to most of it.
You’re also close to the rest of London. Liverpool Street station is one of the city’s best-connected stations, with mainline and Underground services running north, east and across the centre, which makes getting to meetings, Heathrow or a day out simple.
Spitalfields Market, with its shops, stalls and restaurants, is a couple of minutes’ walk away. Shoreditch is about ten minutes on foot. The Tower of London and Tower Bridge are a short walk south.
What the Rooms Are Like
All rooms are en-suite, with a TV, a comfortable bed and complimentary toiletries included in your room rate. Reception can give you a wake-up call if you’ve got an early start.
This is a small City hotel in an old building, and rooms are on the smaller side. We offer three types, so you can pick what suits:
- Double Room, our standard room, with an en-suite bathroom
- Basic Double Room, the same private en-suite, with a restricted view
- Economy Double Room, compact and cosy, with a private en-suite
There’s no restaurant and we don’t serve meals, which is part of why the rate works. You’re in one of London’s best areas for eating out, so you won’t struggle.
Accessibility
We have an accessible room on the ground floor. We don’t have step-free access into the building, but a portable ramp is available on request, just let us know before you arrive so we can have it ready.
Eating and Drinking Nearby
Spitalfields Market is the easiest option: street food at lunch, proper restaurants in the evening, all within a few minutes’ walk. The streets around Bishopsgate and Liverpool Street are full of places suited to a working lunch or an informal meeting.
If you want something different in the evening, Shoreditch is ten minutes away and has a completely different character: independent restaurants, coffee shops that are happy for you to work in them, and plenty of bars.

A Greener Stay
We’ve been awarded a bronze-level Green Tourism award. It’s not something we make a fuss about, but if the environmental side of where you stay matters to you, it’s worth knowing.
